Grade 2/3

Thanks to all

We want to thank you all for your messages of support and cooperation during online learning. We understand the difficulties you must be facing and we can't say loud enough how proud and happy we are with the work the students are producing and your involvement in this process.

The learning

To start this term we will be focusing our learning on a range of different concepts:

Reading will focus on making connections when reading and using strategies to monitor and correct.

In writing we have begun focusing on persuasive texts, the students have been giving their opinion on different topics and using reasons and evidence to support their opinion. Their will also be a focus on spelling where the students will learn about homophones, letter clusters, rhyming words and spelling strategies.

In Maths we will be focusing on place value and also learning about about shape by exploring 2D shapes and their features. We will also be investigating transformation and symmetry in shapes.

Our Inquiry topic for this term is 'Whats in our backyard?' and focus on science. The students will be exploring the local environment.

In our Spanish lessons we will be learning some new vocabulary, using our previous knowledge to understand when we read or listen to people speaking in Spanish and use strategies to decode the words we find difficulties.

TEAMS

As this Monday 4th of May, Newlands Primary School will move to Stage 2 of its Remote Learning Strategy. This means we will be introducing Microsoft Teams as an additional platform in the P-3 area. We are asking families this week to: · Download Microsoft Teams onto your iPad or laptop.

· Use your login details (Username/Password) to log into Microsoft Teams.

· Ensure you can find the calendar button on the left side of the screen.  Graeme has created videos at https://newlandsps.vic.edu.au/parents/#online that will show you how to log on and navigate through Microsoft Teams. It is integral that families know how to join a meeting.   If your username/password is not working, please contact the school on 9354 2928 or by email newlands.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au.

There will be a 9:15 whole class check in. During this time, teachers will take a virtual role and discuss the learning for the day. The daily check in may also include a mini activity, circle time or could share some of the students learning. The Morning Check In will run for approximately 15 minutes.  There will be a daily afternoon Social Group Check In. Between the hours of 1:00pm and 2:00pm (check timetable) .

Physical activity and brain brakes!

We are really pleased to see how involved you have all been in the physical activity breaks.

The idea is to get us moving or to have the brain occupied in something else.

Keep smiling everyone!

Cass, Jose, Isabelle and Bronia!
