Leadership Report

Update - Is there one??

We have been back for just on three weeks, I'm sure all you parents are very attuned to that information. Newlands has been ticking along providing support to family's needing their children supervised at school. We have also provided family support around devices and student well being. This will continue until we have instructions to the contrary.

DET - Support

The Department of Education and Training has been very supportive of schools in a range of ways: from providing extra hand sanitiser, providing extra cleaning staff to supporting teachers as they come to grips with remote learning. They have provided extra support for families by linking learning content through television via iview as well as providing content links on-line. The ABC links may assist families at home, and could be worthwhile checking out for your child while remote learning continues.

Return to School Update

There is no official or otherwise date that schools will return to on-site learning. I know there has been some very unhelpful speculation and commentary from individuals who should know better this week.

I can only provide you with what I know, and the facts are we will not be returning next week or the following week. But when I know you will probably know at the same time.

Renovations

Some good news. Works started this week on improving access to the school. The barriers are up and demolition has begun. We expect the works to be completed by mid June, very exciting!

Communication

Thanks to parents for keeping your enquiries to a minimum. We will continue to forward messages onto teachers, but we may not be able to achieve a 24 hour turn around, so please be patient.

Remote Learning

Reminder we will be entering the next stage of our remote learning strategy, so please familiarise your self with this next stage so you and your child can transition smoothly.

Enrolments - 2021 Foundation

As we are all aware we have had no school tours this term, and will not do so until term three, given the current circumstances. We asking all current parents if you have a child coming as a prep in 2021 please down load an enrolment form and complete the form this term. It would help us greatly to have some knowledge around indicative numbers for 2021.

As part of the process please also bring with the enrolment form your child's birth certificate and immunisation certificate so we can photocopy both as apart of the enrolment process. If you are unable to download the enrolment for from the school website we can have a hard copy made available.

Again thanks

I would also like conclude this newsletter by acknowledging everybody; staff, parents and students for their the goodwill, patience and good humour. I think we have found new and interesting ways to connect with family, friends and strangers, be it the delivery guy or the supermarket cashier. What I have observed in any of my few excursions, has been the improved level of patience and politeness. Let's hope these human standards of manners and politeness continue long after Covid - 19 has gone.
