Principal's Report

From Christian's desk....

Principals in the classroom

This week we’ve had a busy week! Leigh Dixon, Carol Wyatt, Amy Prior and I were led by Dale McInerney in a Learning Walk through the Junior School. This week we had a specific focus on Learning Goals in Reading.  At Croydon Hills we are extremely proud of our staff and their effort to provide consistent learning experiences for children in different classes and differing ability levels.  A highlight of the session for me was when Education Support Staff member, Jorja Van Unen shared how she supports children as they work towards goals.  Jorja shared how she scaffolds the learning task, breaking it into small achievable goals but still maintaining focus on the whole class learning goal.

Education Support Staff Morning Tea

This week our Education Support Staff were acknowledged for their wonderful contribution to the school.  They were spoilt with cards, small gifts and a special morning tea.  On behalf of the students, staff and families, thank-you to our ES team for helping our children succeed in their schooling!  We appreciate the work you do in our classrooms, school administration, health and wellbeing and tending to our grounds.

School Council

Last night School Council met for our August meeting.  In next week’s newsletter School Council President Sian Jamison will report on the business of the school.  Well done Anika and Jasmine for their Junior School Council and School Captains update on the Playground, Gaga Pit and Cupcake Day.

Our South Korean Visitors

Last Friday we had the most wonderful day celebrating culture and diversity.  Congratulations to Kali Fraser and the team of staff who ensured our hosting experience was not only a success for those directly involved in the program, but also sharing the benefits that the international exchange program has with our school community.  Thank you to the families who hosted children in the home stays.

Outside of School Hours Care turns 30!

Last night our OSHC turned 30! Congratulations to the team of staff, particularly Debbie who was the founding member of Croydon Hills OSHC and Mandy who has led Vacation Care and also worked in OSHC since 1989. Debbie, Mandy and senior staff member Kym were acknowledged at our school assembly last Friday.

The children had a great time at the anniversary disco. This was a fitting celebration for Debbie, Mandy and the community as they are wonderful educators who love spending time with kids.

CHAPS Student Disco

There's a huge buzz of excitement around tomorrow night's CHAPS Student Disco.  This year's new Trybooking ticketing system seems to have worked very well, with over 200 students attending each session.

To ensure a fun-filled and safe night for all students, it is essential that a number of basic rules are followed.  Please navigate to our CHAPS News page in this Newsletter to make sure you and your children are aware of these rules so that things run smoothly.

My thanks to CHAPS and the parents who have been working so hard to put together such an exciting event.  We're all looking forward to a great night!
