Moira Shire Youth Council
On Tuesday 5th March 2019 we attended the first Moira Shire Youth Council (MSYC) meeting for 2019 at the Beach Café Cobram.
The MSYC gives students the chance to develop their leadership and communication skills, providing them with a voice in the local community.
After the welcome and introduction by Moira Shire Mayor Cr Libro Mustica, we split into four groups and rotated between activities based on various community topics and activities. After that activity, we talked about our home town issues and concerns such as the need for more youth based activities in Cobram.
We finished the day by playing a get to know you game called ‘human bingo’, which was a lot of fun.
If anyone has any youth issues they want raised with the Moira Shire, please let us know before our next scheduled meeting in May.

Year 9 Career Service
The NEW Career Advisory Service will be delivered to all Year 9 students at Cobram SC in 2019 during term 1, 2 & 3. This program recognises the importance of learning career planning skills as part of the overall career planning process for young people. The service uses a personal online career discovery tool (Morrisby Online) which provides objective and relevant information about the student and the opportunities and options available to them. The Year 9 Career Service is designed to help students make better choices about subject selection, vocational education and training, senior secondary school certificates and further study. More information about this service will be available shortly.
Tax File Numbers
All student will need at tax file number when they start work (part-time or full-time) and all students planning on a tertiary education require one when they start. Importantly, current Year 12 students are reminded that they will be requested to provide their Tax File Number (TFN) on enrolment to TAFE or university next year, so it is worthwhile getting an application submitted early! Students must now apply for a TFN online and have their identity verified through an interview at a participating Australia Post office.
