Principal's Report

The school of choice for the Cobram Community

Every child matters,

Every staff member cares,

Every opportunity taken.

every opportunity...

Our students have been busy in the classroom and out. We’ve enjoyed a Wellbeing Focus Day at Year 9, an anti-bullying day, successfully competed in GMD & Hume swimming, many parents and students turned up to our band recruitment evening, and we have established our student leadership positions.  As I write, our  Year 7 students are embracing the challenges and social experiences of camp.

Our students are really making the most of their opportunities.  I encourage them to continue to do so, with so much more planned for Term 2, starting with the opportunity to represent the school at the ANZAC Day march.  With ANZAC Day being such an important day for the wider Cobram community, it’s an ideal time for students to be involved and show their support and respect.  Students marching with the school are to be dressed in their school uniform.

College staff have been working on simplifying our reporting to parents. The new look report covers aspects of students work not related to academic performance – namely engagement, task completion, being ready to learn and appropriate behaviours.  We want to celebrate students who are working hard, and focus on providing an indication to students on what to do to “level up”.   These reports will be available online on the 27th March and a printed copy will be given to students on Thursday 28th March.

every staff member...

College staff have been committed to improving reading for the past three years, and now our efforts are being noticed.  Penny Jones started the year being interviewed by Maxine McKew on the Talking Teaching podcast focusing on our school's approach to reading.  Recently we were visited from world renowned literacy expert, Diane Snowball and Michael Muscat - executive Principal of the Kambrya College featured in a documentary aired on ABC - the Revolution School. A copy of Diane's feedback email to our college can be found later in this newsletter.

We welcome two new staff members to our team...

Jess Mazur - Jess is teaching the VCAL, Foods and Year 9 Humanities

Wendy Marshall - Wendy is an administration support staff member for the Teaching and Learning team.
