Choral Festival

On Sunday, 26th May, the City of Ballarat hosted the 24th Annual Choral Festival at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Sturt Street. This year, eleven choirs were represented from various parts of the region.

The ‘Beaufort Secondary College Singers’ (our school choir) participated again in this event and presented a fine performance that generated many positive comments afterwards. It was very affirming for our students to realise that there are others, both students and adults, who share a love of music and passion for singing.

The two songs we performed were ‘Locked Away’, a song written in 2015 by the Virgin Islands production duo Rock City, and ‘Colours of the Wind’, written by lyricist Stephen Schwartz and composer Alan Menken for the Walt Disney animated film Pocahontas, in 1995.

At the end of the individual choir performances, all vocalists combined to sing ‘One Voice’, a song written in 2004 by Ruth Moody of the ‘Wailin’ Jennys’, which progressively introduces each voice type (soprano, alto, tenor and bass), and culminates in the full volume of singers by the end. This year that translated into approximately 170 voices.

Many thanks must go to the supportive families that ensured that students could participate in the Choral Festival, those that came along in support, and the commitment that the students themselves displayed in their preparation for this programme. Also, many thanks must be extended to Mrs. Doyle and Mrs. Evans for singing, and also providing transport for the performance.

We look forward to further performance opportunities … we love what we do!
