On Thursday 16th May, we travelled to Ecolinc to undertake some practical work for our Unit 1 Learning Outcomes.
We joined with students from 3 other small schools to revise metallic and covalent bonding. We made lots of 3D models to strengthen and extend our knowledge. A series of experiments were undertaken to determine properties of the substances, particularly conductivity.
We also learnt about carbon nanomaterials, their current and potential uses, along with their limitations. We undertook a series of steps to convert a solution into a suspension of gold nanoparticles, checking their presence with a laser light. Even though we couldn’t see them, it was pretty exciting to make gold.
We enjoyed a productive yet relaxing day.
