Year 8 Year Adviser

Rhys Murphy

Term two was a busy one for Year 8. With students getting involved in a range of activities across all of the key learning areas and outside of the classroom. We will be looking to build upon this moving forward into term three and throughout the rest of 2019 where students are encouraged to participate in as many programs, teams and initiatives as they can in order to get the most out of their schooling experience.

Term three means that subject selection for Year 9 in 2020 is coming up fast. Parents are encouraged to attend subject selection evening in order to get more information on the great range of subjects offered to students for their schooling next year in order for these students to have the best chance of success in Stage 5. We look forward to seeing you there!

Parents are reminded to please ensure that if students are attending school wearing incorrect school uniform, to please provide a note explaining why. Usually it is just a matter of school uniform being in the wash or needing to buy new items due to children rapidly growing, but it is important that this information is communicated to teachers at school. The uniform shop is open Tuesday and Thursday morning before school if any additional items need to be purchased.

As always parents and carers are encouraged to be in contact with myself or Renee Milloy if they have any questions or concerns about students. We look forward to speaking with you throughout the course of the remainder of the year.

Year 10 Year Adviser

Steve Satmaka

Year 10 has been very busy since last I wrote. Term two was filled with exams and assessment tasks to finish the semester. As I mentioned last time, Year 10 took to this with an air of maturity and seriousness which quite frankly, is to be expected.

More evidence of this maturity can be seen in how well the year engaged with their work experience last term. Year 10 received the opportunity to have a taste of life in the working world to hopefully assist them in choosing a career path post schooling.

Many Year 10 students have taken up leadership roles throughout the school. This can be seen with the peer support team that has been mentoring the Year 7 group and assisting with taster lessons that are part of the transition program from local primary schools.

Year 10 are currently in the middle of completing some taster lessons themselves, to assist them in choosing their senior subjects and to prepare them for the subject selection evening which is taking place on Thursday 22nd of August.

Year 10 should be proud of all of their achievements thus far, though there are still major milestones to achieve this year and beyond. Always looking forward Year 10!

Year 12 Year Adviser

Saqi Abawi

Year 12 students have been very busy since the beginning of the term, in preparation of their HSC Trial Examinations held in weeks 4 and 5. The examinations were not the only thing on their minds, as many students also had their Major Works Showcased. I want to congratulate the cohort on their resilience and effort during this challenging time and I would also like to acknowledge the great work of their teachers who supported them along the way.

Term three marks the final term of schooling for the year group and once assessments are finished the focus will shift onto final HSC examination preparation. I want to remind all students to remain motivated and to engage in positive activities that boost their well-being.

There are also some exciting events to look forward to in celebrating the end of their schooling. The Year 12 Formal is taking place at Lily’s Function Centre, Seven Hills on Tuesday, the 24th of September and the Year 12 Graduation is taking place on Thursday, the 26th of September at the Evans High School hall.

In addition, we have planned a fun day out to Luna Park, named ‘All Together Day’ on Friday the 20th September so that we can spend one last day together as a cohort. Keep up the effort Year 12, your hard work is sure to reward you!
