Where are they now?

At Evans High School we are so proud of all our students, both past and present. As a small school community we are able to build long-lasting relationships that go beyond the classroom. It's always exciting to hear how successful our students are.

What years did you attend Evans HS?

1997 – 2001

What are some exciting things you have done since leaving Evans HS?

Since leaving Evans, I began my adult journey in a profession I never thought I would… Pharmacy. It was an interesting industry where I learnt so much however it was not where I truly wanted to be. During this time I met my husband and got married. We had an amazing son who is now 12 years old. It was only after getting married and having my son that I decided to reach for my dreams and began my studies of becoming a teacher! I worked full time during the day in Pharmacy, came home and put my mum and wife hat on until 9pm. At 9pm I put my student hat on and began my studies every night for 4 and half years.

What is your occupation?

I was a pharmacy technician for many years, a teacher for 3 years before stepping into my current role as an Assistant Principal.

What courses have you done since leaving Evans HS?

Pharmacy Technician Certificate, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education.

What is your favourite memory of Evans HS? There are so many! The many different concerts and talent quests showcasing the VERY talented students. So many students who were so quiet and shy, all of a sudden were up in front of the whole school and singing or dancing and they were amazing. The SRC discos were always a great time.

Who was your favourite teacher and why? It is hard to try and pinpoint one particular teacher. There were a number of teachers who helped shape me into who I am today in one way or another. Miss Newbolt and Mr Nousis definitely encouraged me and helped me become more confident. They helped me see my abilities and strengths.

What was your favourite thing about studying in your senior years at Evans HS?

Most students and teachers were there from the beginning (Year 7) until the end. This made it much easier to approach the teachers during the senior years because they knew you and were there for the duration of your journey. It also meant that by the time students got to the senior years, they were settled and almost all were friends.

What advice would you give to a student in their senior years?

You will have challenges, good days and tough ones but the most important thing of all is to do YOUR best. It’s not as scary as it seems. Be proud of yourself and your efforts. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and help each other. Push yourself outside your comfort zone. You will be surprised what you learn and when that knowledge can come in handy. And finally, remember to make time for yourself and others and enjoy the little moments. You may not feel it now but you will miss it when it’s over.
