Amnesty Battle of the Talent, 2019 is this Friday 21 June in The Farrall Centre from 6.00pm - 9.20pm. This is an annual event showcasing student talent...whether listening to bands and singers or supporting stand up comedy, this evening is always full of fun, entertainment and excitement. Entry is $5 with all money raised going to support Amnesty International initiatives in the school. There will also be soft drinks on sale for $1 on the night.

There will be 'no pass outs' for students under the age of 18. Students may only leave the event early if a parent collects them from the door where a staff member will be present. Also to note, this evening is a Friends' only event so only current students from The Friends' School may attend.

Term 3 High School Aquatics Program

In Term 3  all students in Years 7 - 9 will participate in an Aquatics program in Weeks 1 to  6 inclusive. This is a compulsory unit of the Years 7 - 9 Physical Education Curriculum. Students will access the Friends Health & Fitness Centre one lesson each week to use the swimming pool and facilities. The focus of these programs is to develop students’ swimming and water survival skills so they gain the confidence and fitness to be able to enjoy activities in aquatic environments in the future.

In Year 10 students self-select to complete competencies towards the Life-Saving Bronze Medallion Award run by certified staff and supported by Royal Life Saving Tasmania.

In preparation for this Term 3 program, we encourage all students to use the next few weeks to organise the following gear that is needed for their aquatics session so they are ready to swim in Week 1 of Term 3:  swimmers, goggles, swim cap and towel.

It is anticipated that all students will participate in this program.  Any enquiries please email Trish Menadue, Head of Faculty (tmenadue@friends.tas.edu.au).

Acting for Action

The Year 9 Drama Evening this year is called ‘Acting for Action’. It is a student organised showcase of some of the best work from Year 9 Drama this semester.

Students are keen to raise money for Dementia Research Foundation, acknowledging the research into the positive impact that Arts engagement can have in the lives of dementia sufferers.

With over 40 students performing from the two classes, it is set to be a terrific evening of work from these students who have pushed themselves to develop their confidence, credibility and communication skills in a variety of theatrical forms.
