Assistant Principal Report

Message from our Assistant Principal - Bianca Gatherum

Dear  Parents,

Many wonderful and exciting things have been happening around Mount View this week.  Three Year 5 classes travelled to Bairnsdale for their Year 5 Camp at Coonawarra, we had a whole school assembly presenting the Year 6 student leaders with their badges, and Year 6 have been exploring the Micro: bit in the Digital Lab. They have enjoyed inquiring into coding using 'if/then' statements as they created their own Step Tracker. It’s been great to see all students (and teachers) out completing laps around the oval in preparation for the House Cross country coming up at the end of this term.

Please Tell Me About Your Child Meetings - Tuesday 3rd March

Our second ‘Please Tell Me about Your Child’ meetings will take place on Tuesday afternoon from 3:45pm -6pm. This provides the parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher to discuss their learning needs and share any relevant information.

Labour Day—Monday 9th March

This is a public holiday and children are not required to attend school.

Diversity Week – March 16-20th

Our whole school and community will be celebrating Diversity week on March 16th -20th. We will be having a celebration assembly with cultural dances, indigenous welcome and whole school participation in singing a Chinese song. The following assembly there will be a special morning tea in the classrooms, where we invite parents to come along and share their cultural traditional foods with the students. Throughout the week students will participate in a range of fun and engaging activities from all cultures across the world.

Camps

Year 5 students from 5SL, 5AS and 5JK have spent this last week in East Gippsland at Coonawarra Camp. From all reports they had a terrific time, horse riding, having a go on the giant swing, and flying fox. In a couple of weeks it will be our Year 4 students  heading off to Phillip Island Adventure resort for 4 days exploring the local beaches, wildlife (Penguins) and participating in several adventure activities.

Community awareness - Parking

Parents are reminded to take care when parking in the local streets around our school. We regularly receive feedback from our local residents about our community parking illegally (across driveways, no-standing signs, restricted timed parking) and driving in and out of driveways. We need to be safe and aware of our children, others and follow the road rules.

Once again can we please remind all parents and community members that there are parking restrictions signed on Shepherd Road. The council are currently enforcing parking fines (especially on Shepherd Road). It is a 2minute/Kiss and Go between 8am-9am and 3-4pm out the front of the school near the office and near the gym carpark on Shepherd road. (See picture below- highlighted in GREEN)
