Year 5 News

It has been another big fortnight for the Year 5s! Carrying on with the busy Term that is Term 2, the students continue to impress us with their enthusiasm and resilience.

NAPLAN

Over the past couple of weeks the students have completed 4 different NAPLAN tests covering Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. The Year 5 teachers are extremely proud of their class' productivity and determination during this period and the way they have conducted themselves.

Inquiry

Rounding up the end of our Unit of Inquiry,

'How the World Works', we have explored the impacts of climate change, the difference between Natural Disasters and Natural Hazards, as well as examining the devastating impacts and response of the Black Saturday bushfires.

This week, we introduced the students to their summative project, which will provide them the opportunity to demonstrate their research skills, combined with critical thinking and problem solving about the education and responses around natural disasters.

The project will be the capstone of all the knowledge learnt throughout the unit, with the students inquiring into a specific natural disaster and region of their choice, examining the science behind the disaster as well as the social and physical impacts. As a culmination of the project, the Year 5s will be presenting and celebrating their work as part of an exhibition. More to come on this soon!

Numeracy

The Year 5's have continued to revise several concepts of Numeracy with the main focus for the past couple of weeks being surface area and perimeter, fractions, shapes, and converting units of measurements.

Congratulations to each Year 5 student, on yet another jam-packed couple of weeks.
