New Unit of Inquiry

The Preps have been really enjoying their new Unit of Inquiry - How We Express Ourselves. We have started to consider how our senses help us to explore the world around us. We began the nit by brainstorming ideas about our sight, taste, hearing, touch and sense of smell.

We loved getting together in the Great Hall as a whole year level to read Mrs Wishy-Washy. Miss Evins taught us about sign language and together we read and signed the story. The Preps learnt the sign for cow, pig, duck, into, house, away, listening, looking, sit up and sit down. It was a lot of fun!

The children were all engrossed when we went on our 'senses walk’, we were so lucky that it is autumn as the lovely autumn leaves gave us pretty colours to look at, leaves to crunch as we walked over them and we even felt them in our hands. We also smelt some lovely eucalyptus leaves, touched the rough asphalt, saw some birds flying in the sky, listened to the sounds of the traffic whizzing along Reserve Road and even tasted water from the drinking fountains. It is wonderful to see the children experience their surroundings through a different lens as they focus on what their senses tell them!

Thank you Jenny Marashli

On Monday this week the school had a special assembly to thank the ES (Education Support) staff for all their hard work.

The Prep students made a Certificate of Recognition and beautiful book for Jenny Marashli.  We are so grateful to have Jenny working with the Prep students on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week.  She is always so kind, caring and patient when helping the children with their learning.

Jenny is particularly popular with the Prep students on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays when she manages the school canteen!!

Where would we be without our special canteen lunches?  The children love visiting the canteen to buy their treats and Jenny always keeps an eye out for the Preps to make sure it is a fun experience for them.

Thank you Jenny for all the wonderful things you do to support the Prep children and teachers.  We really appreciate your kindness and hard work!

iPads

The Preps have been very excited to use the iPads during our weekly ICT sessions. The Prep teachers have been fortunate to have some Year 6, Year 3 and Year 2 students assist in logging the children on to various programs and help any requiring extra support. The Preppies are becoming a lot more confident in using their headphones & navigating various programs and are completing more tasks independently during these sessions.
