'Be The Best That You Can Be'

The Project at WHSC

We are very proud to have our students represent Wheelers Hill Secondary College as part of the important work to recognise and celebrate our history of the First Nation of Australia.

The artworks are all created by Year 9 students in the "Community Connection Art" subject which runs in a double period every Wednesday. This subject is one of many ways for WHSC to connect with the wider community.

The Community Connection Art students decided to make their connection with the local Elders Arbup Peters and Mark Lumley from DET 'Community Understanding and Safety Training' (CUST) to learn about the Indigenous land we stand on.

This involved building a clear understanding of the basic history of Indigenous Australia Culture and Customs, specifically in the area of Arts, which is very central in their life and communication. Arts in its symbolic and cultural representation have been used as a means of communication by the Indigenous community of Australia for thousands of years. Their close and intimate connection to the land, flora, and fauna are the core values the Year 9 Community Connection Art class has learned and they have expressed their understanding through the artworks they’ve created.

Dreamtime - stories of legends, spirits, land, and tribes are the main subject areas our Year 9 Community Connection students have focused on to represent Wheelers Hill Secondary College in the Corroboree Calling Exhibition, organised by Reconciliation Group Inc. and presented by the Track Gallery, City of Monash.

Library News

As you may already be aware, there is a laptop charging station in the Library.

Students are expected to charge their laptops at home; the trolley will be unlocked by the library staff at the end of periods 1, 2, and 3, and at the end of lunchtime. Space is limited so please ensure that you charge your laptop regularly.

IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism, and Transphobia) was celebrated by our Diversity group in the Library on 17th May with cake and videos which students enjoyed participating in.  A fun time was had by all!
