"Be The Best That You Can Be"

Year 10 Cell models

As part of the Year 10 Biology/Psychology unit's students create a cell model from provided materials that accurately represents the appearance of organelles in their choice of a plant or animal cell.

They also complete a poster that shows understanding of the function of cell organelles by relating the role of ten different organelles to related structures in an analogy of their choice. In this way students develop a better understanding of the various cells within living organisms.

Mathematical Monograms- making pictures with Maths!

I am so happy to share my Year 11 Maths Methods students’ work with you! They have been working on how to graph mathematical functions, and I asked them to create Monograms with their initials using a Graphing Calculator called DESMOS.

These are some samples of their fantastic work!

Please join me in congratulating all the Year 11 Maths Methods students for their creativity, resilience, and problem-solving skills. I am sure that if you check their DESMOS pages, you will be amazed by the massive amount of mathematical work required to create these images.

Well done, class! I am a very happy Maths teacher, thanks to you guys!

RYDA Excursion

On Tuesday 3rd May, the Year 11 students attended an excursion for RYDA. RYDA is a program professionally developed by a leading learning organisation, Road Safety Education Limited (RSE), to complement the high school curriculum and ensure students have the tools and understanding to see themselves as active, responsible road citizens.

RYDA provides students with the tools, habits, and motivation to take action and stay safe on our roads as both drivers and passengers throughout their lives. RYDA features a highly engaging one-day rotation of workshops to increase students’ understanding of road safety.

I am incredibly proud of the respectful behaviour demonstrated by our Year 11 students and their engagement in the RYDA program. Follow-up activities will occur back at school in extended homegroup.

Below are some student reflections of the day:

RYDA Excursion
Guilty of not having my learners, RYDA was genuinely an experience I’ll not soon forget. Instantly, the programs we received, were filled with activities that we were taught live by a wonderful group of instructors. Each session was unique and quite educational. Personally, the highlight was being visited by a woman who narrated her unfortunate incident on the roads, leaving us with this quote "the beauty in life is in each precious moment, stop and smell the roses".  Ryda was an experience that taught not only about safety, but about the importance of little choices that can impact lives.

RYDA Excursion
Personally, I think all year 11’s who participated in the RYDA excursion enjoyed it as it was intriguing, interactive and very informational. The weather complimented the outdoor activities that we did which helped make the experience better. Not only were the activities interesting, the people running them were polite and educated on the topics which made it easy to stay engaged and retain the information.
Some of the activities that we participated in were, road safety, risk awareness, safety measurements on and in a car and we even had a guest speaker with past experience of a car incident.

I came out of the RYDA excursion with more of an understanding about car and road awareness, what to do in the car as a driver as well as a passenger and would recommend the RYDA excursion for future students.

Year 11 Biology – Rat Dissection

To help our Year 11 Biology students better understand the workings of the digestive system and all its components they undertake a dissection of a rat. While it may not be for all, particularly if a little squeamish, these rats give their lives so our students can better understand what goes on inside mammals as part of the VCE Biology curriculum.

Students are able to opt-out of this task and complete an equivalent task using models and simulations, but there is real value in seeing the real thing in terms of seeing the variability that occurs in different rats as well as between male and female specimens.

VCE DRAMA Ensemble Performances

Last week the VCE Drama students performed for their families, friends, and staff in the Bunjil Centre. Their talent shone through, with the students devising and creating pieces based on given stimulus and featured specific performance styles. Thank you to all who supported the students. Wonderful work and powerful performances. Congratulations to the Drama Students.

Program Design - Will, Abigail, James, Bailey, Shaylee, Chloe, and Riley

VCE DRAMA Excursion to Melbourne Theatre Company Performance

Our VCE Drama students had the opportunity to attend “Slap Bang Kiss” as their prescribed play for the Unit studies. The themes of activism, community, and hope were explored. All students were thrilled to enjoy the performance in the Bunjil Casey Theatre. To be inspired and entertained has complimented their learning.
