Biodiversity Learning Hub Update

Well it’s all starting to really get underway with the development of our BLH! This Friday afternoon 20th May a generous group of parents have put their hand up to come and help plant out seedlings, set up our outdoor classroom, install some logs for habitat, seating and move mulch around.

We have also purchased magnifying glasses, bug scopes, sensor trail cameras and have been generously gifted six nest boxes and clean mulch from Macedon Ranges Shire Council.

Our sustainability leaders have been painting the nest boxes to blend in with various trees in the BLH. Darren Tinker from MRSC will be giving the senior students a talk next Wednesday about the animals that use the nest boxes, about installing them and providing assistance with ongoing monitoring.

The grade 3 are building bug motels this week ready for installing over the next few weeks. This should provide habitat for a range of pollinators and other bugs.

Penny Roberts from Newham District Landcare and Tully Sumner from Grow Locals plants have fulfilled our orders for tube stock plants, which will be used to revegetate our BLH, providing habitat for a range of animals.
