Literacy 

In Reading, we will: 

Identify and incorporate new vocabulary into written and spoken language including a large number of content specific words

  • Continue to monitor accuracy and understanding and solve unfamiliar  content specific words using a wide range of strategies
  • Read critically, questioning the authenticity of a text and author to examine author bias
  • Begin to use features and top level structures to summarise the important ideas in the text

In Writing, we will: 

  • Select information and vocabulary that is accurate and appropriate to the topic
  • Experiment with a variety of language and styles that are appropriate to the structure of the text with the intended purpose and audience in mind
  • Spend an extended amount of time writing authentic texts on a daily basis, articulate and where possible practise their goal as discussed during conferencing
