Indigenous Garden

In Week 4, students in all years at Carlton North Primary had an opportunity to learn about the native plants in our school grounds. We learnt their names, as well as their traditional uses by Indigenous Australians such as food, fibre or medicine.

On Friday the 20th of May, students were able to plant their own Victorian native plant in the Indigenous garden beds at the front of the school. Students in Foundation planted in the Indigenous Food Garden between the main buildings. We had a lot of fun learning about these species, their traditional uses, and about the importance of biodiversity in Victorian grassland ecosystems.

I would like to thank all involved in the planting, in particular Sarah Bekessey, Natasha Ward, Marnie Pascoe, Jessica Adam, Kylie Lee, Rebecca Slater and Sarah Morgan, without whose help these kinds of opportunities can’t happen.
