SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Let’s call these two weeks action packed!  We have been celebrating a range of successes across the school and our student body. It has been a fabulous feeling everywhere we go.

Our Year 7 and 9 students will today finish their NAPLAN testing. We would like to congratulate these students on how well they have handled the ongoing testing period.  Ms Coleman and Mr Kellow have done extensive work to ensure that this ran smoothly, and we thank them very much.

Our 2023 Year 7 Information night was held on Tuesday 10th May and was a wonderful showcase of what our school has to offer.  There was a range of displays and activities set up for students and parents to experience, along with a significant amount of staff on hand to answer any questions. We hope that everyone had a really fun time.

A number of winter sport teams for Football and Netball have gone out, bringing back smiles and enthusiasm for more in the next round.  Around 56 students attended the Interschool Cross Country, held in Leongatha and our most speedy students move on to the Gippsland round in early June.  Similarly, our Year 9 Outdoor Ed class have been hiking around Wilson’s Prom and on a wilderness tour, returning with stories of their escapades. The Year 10 students visited the Jewish Holocaust Museum and spoke with survivor Paul Grinwald, a solemn but enjoyable excursion. The Clinch Saxophone Quartet attended and worked with some of our South Gippsland School Music Program (SGSMP) students, putting on a short musical finale prior to their departure.  The Year 12 Studio Art class have been on a gallery visit, one of a few they need to do across the year for their final submissions.  All year 12 students have the end of the year in focus and this was supported on Tuesday with a Tertiary Information Session and Federation University in Churchill.

So many student events already and still five weeks of term to go. So many other goings on also occur which don’t involve our students directly. We have had our school council meetings, tree maintenance occurring in the yard, plantings in the gardens and some ongoing mulch works around the grounds.  There is also the constant hum of machinery and the dogman’s whistle from the building site. Our building program continues to provide a new scenic change each day, running on schedule for movement into our Admin space for Term 3, and the second phase in Term 4.

Our General Office movements have caused a little bit of confusion this term. We would like to remind parents that when you are collecting your child, during school hours, they need to be collected from the General Office. Parents are asked to pull into the bus loop car spaces, go into the general office (follow signage) and sign out your child.  It is important that we know who a student is departing with and when.  Thank you for your consideration of this.

From Monday 23 May 2022, it will no longer be recommended that non-symptomatic students or staff conduct RATs twice a week in mainstream schools. However, it is recommended RATs are used by students and staff when symptomatic. RATs are also required to be used for 5 days if a student or staff member is a close contact of a confirmed case and they are attending or working at a school. Students, families and staff must continue to notify the Department of Health and their school if they return a positive RAT result. The school does maintain stock of RAT Tests to allocate to families, so please contact us if you require some.

As winter well and truly sets in to Gippsland, we wish you warm and entertaining discussions with your loved ones around the heaters in your homes.
