“Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela

Education Week

This year Education week focused on 150 years of public education, commemorating the past, celebrating the present and imagining the future of education. At Monash SDS we decided to have a real focus on celebrating the present. We are very proud of the education we offer our students and in honour of education week, this newsletter will focus on our Structured Teaching framework. Some of our students also enjoyed a fantastic incursion provided by DJ Sizzle and MC Mantra in Education Week.

Structured Teaching Framework

The Structured Teaching Framework at Monash SDS is the foundation for all of our educational programs.  Structured Teaching considers our students unique learning styles and adopts a variety of visual strategies within the environment to support learning.  Emphasis is placed on understanding and meeting individual needs by presenting information and instructions visually.  Visual schedules provide visual cues that tell learners what activities will occur during the day and in what sequence.  The work system provides students with a systematic way to approach and organise the work and tasks within lessons.  These strategies are developed to match a learner’s understanding and enhance the ability of our students to stay on task and transition between tasks.  Structured Teaching is evidence based and the result is increased independence and access to all areas of the curriculum.  I hope you enjoy a deeper look into our highly organized classrooms, schedules, work systems and visually structured learning tasks.

Capital Works Update

The wet weather is holding up the next part of our Capital works as we need some dry weather to be able to pour the concrete slab. The screw piles are all in ready for this stage and once the concrete slab is down it will be onwards and upwards!

Have a lovely long weekend everyone! See you Tuesday.

As always please reach out with any questions or concerns.
