Excursions

Year 9, 10 & 12 Art Students encounter art in Sydney
On Thursday 29 June a bus full of Visual Arts students headed down to Sydney to look at two art exhibitions. At the Brett Whiteley studios in Surry Hills, students were very privileged to be able to view a collection of Whiteley’s (a well celebrated Australian artist) drawings, sculptures, mixed media artworks and paintings. To help the students engage with the art works, they were briefed about Whiteley’s life before perusing the exhibits and creatively responding with art materials to the artworks themselves. With a head full of highly representational artworks, students had a leisurely stroll over to Chippendale to see a whole three stories of contemporary Chinese art at the White Rabbit Gallery. One of the highlights of this gallery was an iconic wave video installation that overlooked three dark lit rooms.
A big thank you goes to Mrs Wheatley who accompanied myself and the students on the trip. It was an epic day in so many ways. As some of the students said, despite the early start, it will be great to go to Sydney again and see some more art very soon. Mrs Grimwood
Kindergarten went to Saltwater National Park
On Tuesday 27 June our Kindergarten students went to Wallabi Point as part of their Human Society & its Environment subject, studying the unit 'People live in Places'. Saltwater Reserve provided us with an excellent opportunity to observe a traditional shelter and engage in a number of other activities that complimented their studies on the subject. Guess what... they had lots of fun too!!!
Ag Quip 2017
On Tuesday 22 August, 20 bleary eyed students (along with 3 equally bleary eyed staff members) met at Taree Service Centre at 4am for our annual trip to Ag Quip in Gunnedah. We were blessed with safe travel, and no sickness across the mountain, which allowed the students to have a very enjoyable day exploring the different agricultural technologies on display. Over 100, 000 people make their way to Gunnedah for Ag Quip, and it was an excellent opportunity for our students to be able to attend again. Many of the students enjoyed spending time chatting to exhibitors, learning about the products they had on offer. All in all, a very successful day, and our students conducted themselves in an exemplary way. Thanks to Mrs Boots and Mr Alley for accompanying me.
