Year 6 Canberra Excursion

Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER)

Students from our school have recently undertaken, an education tour of the National Capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the National Capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

During week 3 of Term 3, Taree Christian College Year 6 have been and seen Canberra! They had a good time and they learnt things on the way.  We also went to many places like Thredbo, Parliament House, Questacon, National Zoo & Aquarium and many more fun places to go and see. We stayed at the Ibis in Canberra. It was a very fun experience for us and the parents who came with us as well. My favourite thing about Canberra was that we got to go to the zoo and see all of the animals and what they do each day. Also, did you know that Canberra has over 356,585 people! But getting on with the story... On Tuesday we went to the Government House and to the Parliament House to visit and see what they do. Then on Wednesday we had a big day, we went to the snow and had a blast, in my opinion the snow was the best day of the week! and that is the ending of this newspaper report. Thanks for reading Daily Planet and have a nice day.

Term 3, Week 3 Taree Christian College Year 6 travelled to Canberra for a great week of fun and learning. First stop was the look out where we could see everything. After they went to the national Museum, where they saw light snow and built a new land mark out of lego. Then they went to Cockington Green and saw a streaker also they saw international land marks. After they went to the cabins there were about 3/4 kids in a cabin. In the cabins they had a TV,  kettle, tea and multiple bags of sugar. After they got to their cabins they had dinner and played King Karaticus which was fun. On Tuesday they started at Old Parliament House where they did an activity where they had to go around parliament house and answer questions. Canberra has the population of 356,585. After we went to the Australian Electoral Commission where they did a fake vote on fruits. When they went to Questacon they did a speed test with you throwing a ball. There was a drop slide too where you dropped off a bar down a slide. At laser tag Mr Warner won two out of three games. On Wednesday they went to the snow at Thredbo where they did penguin sliding in about 2 tonne of snow. There was about 90cm of snow there. Thank you for reading the Daily Planet.
