Bring Your Own Device

Parents of 2020 Year 3-6 students

As we move further into the digital age, it is becoming increasingly important for students to be able to access online resources and learning tools. This year we have continued to utilise our learning portal ‘Compass’ and our online digital libraries ‘Wheelers’ and ‘Epic’. We will be continuing with ‘Mathletics’ and ‘Reading Eggs’ and looking to use other educational applications. I would like to encourage all our parents with children in Years 3-6 to take up the opportunity of the own-your-own-device program.

Please Note:

  • There are 2 options to select from - an Apple iPad or a Lenovo Thinkpad.
  • Devices may be bought outright or bought with finance options.
  • We would strongly recommend that you choose one of the insurance options. If you want to “opt out”, it will be your child’s responsibility to look after the device. Please check both options, one option provides more coverage than the other.
  • Some families may have their own  home and contents insurance which may cover the device, but you would need to check the “fine print” of your insurance policy (and probably record the make, model and serial number with your insurance company).
  • Students would be able to continue to use their devices into Secondary College (especially Numurkah Secondary College).
  • When connected to the wireless network at school, all Education Department security filters will be in place, as well as teacher monitoring.
  • You will be able to connect to your network at home.  We encourage similar filters and parental monitoring take place at home.
  • We will continue to emphasise the importance of cyber safety.

We are encouraging as many students as possible to have their own devices next year.  We feel families will get value for money, and student learning will certainly benefit from the program.
