August Newsletter

It is no surprise that we are already midway through Term 3, with the focus being on so many large important School calendar events. This Term has already seen the implementation of the Review process, the official opening of the Wellness centre, Athletics Day, Production rehearsals and important and comprehensive Course Counselling sessions. All in the quest for delivering the best opportunities and outcomes for our students.

Wellness Centre Official Opening

Friday 9th August saw the official opening of our recently developed Wellness Centre. Despite the inclement weather, the morning was a huge success. The rain didn’t dampen anybody’s spirits as many important guests arrived to witness Pauline Richards, local State MP for Casey cut the ribbon and announce the centre officially open. Pauline was well supported by two of our School leaders, Tyson Magila and Grace Tibusious and Amanda Stapledon – Mayor City of Casey.

We are very proud of this initiative, which was brought to life from a vision of our previous wellbeing leader Deb Edwards and her team - Hayley Williams, Harlin Gandhok, Jacquie Binns and Anna Syposs. A government funding grant from the Hon. James Merlino (Minister for Education) allowed the Centre to move from a concept on paper to a reality. One of the many highlights the development of the Wellness Centre brings is all our high quality professional services are now together in one area, within the school boundaries and accessible to all students, at any time within the school context.

2019 Parliament Prize for Victorian school students Years 7-9

In addition to the excitement of the day, a huge honour was bestowed upon one of our Year 9 students, Sanuda Perera, who was personally invited by Pauline Richards MP, to attend and meet with her to formally recognise his wonderful achievement of second place in the 2019 Parliament Prize for Victorian school students, Years 7-9. A huge Congratulations to Sanuda for his noteworthy efforts.

Athletics Day

Despite the weather conditions, teachers, students, ES staff and Principal team all headed to Casey fields for the CESC Athletics Day on Tuesday 13th August.  The day was a huge success, thanks to our Sports Co-coordinator, Dylan Cousins and his team.

All things Review

The school review is almost complete. Validation day occurred on Monday 29th July, which developed the questions that drove the 2 field days on the 5th & 6th August. The various reviewers interviewed and spoke with a mixture of teachers, admin staff, parents and students and discussed all the highlights, processes and practices of the College in order to gather evidence for the final day preparation on Wednesday 14th August. The information gathered from this review forms the basis of our next Strategic Plan and steers the focus for improving student outcomes over the next four years. Huge thanks to everyone involved in this monumental task.

Course Counselling

On Monday 5th and Thursday 8th August, the College offered course counselling sessions to all the students entering their senior years. The two evenings ran smoothly and efficiently thanks to all the teachers and admin staff involved who met with students to discuss their pathways and subjects for 2020.

Production

Production is almost upon us. All those months of rehearsing are finally coming together. Cranbourne East Secondary College is proud to present their latest musical production for 2019: We Will Rock You! The cast and crew of students ranging from Years 7 - 12 have worked tirelessly over the last 8 months to present their work to the community.

We Will Rock You – the musical is fuelled by the classic hits of the British rock band Queen and written by Ben Elton. It tells the tale of a dystopian future, where rock music and individuality has been outlawed.  The young bohemians, led by Galileo Figaro set out to save society from the blandness of corporate music....and the Killer Queen! We look forward to seeing you all on the night.

PERFORMANCE DATES:

THURSDAY 29TH AUGUST- 7:30pm

FRIDAY 30TH AUGUST- 7:30pm

SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST- 7:30pm
