SPORTS REPORT

Basketball
On Monday the 20th of November, the Year 7 boys from St Joseph’s Echuca made their way down to the big city of Melbourne to battle it out for the School Sports Victoria Basketball State Championship. St Joe's were huge underdogs coming up against strong schools, the likes of Maribyrnong College, Hazel Glen College and Horsham College. All provided a massive challenge for St Joe's to overcome. Every boy in the team apart from one had played on the Saturday and Sunday in Wangaratta and were well and truly exhausted, but that didn't stop them from being persistent and determined. Fortunately enough they had enough in the tank and won all three games in our pool, eventually making it to the state Championship Grand Final against Berwick College.
Unfortunately, St Joseph’s went down 40-32 which capped off an extremely good effort from a country town of Echuca to be crowned second in the State for all the schools across Victoria.
The best players for the weekend were Elijah Bruns, Noah Long and Sam Deola. But the team wouldn't have been competitive with the likes of Solly McKay, Kobyn James, Luke Caine, Chais Dunstan, and Kaileb Wilson, who all had a positive influence throughout the tournament.
Coaches Mal Dunstan and Angus Byrne were extremely proud of the boys' effort, and so pleased to have been able to work with such a lovely group of young men.
A big thank you for all the work the Team and the Coaches put in, and especially the St Joseph's Sports Coordinator Lisa Spiteri.
