The importance of reading for children cannot be underestimated. Reading for pleasure can benefit a child’s education, social and cognitive development, their wellbeing and their mental health.

The Kingswood Reading Challenge encouraged students to read a set number of books or set time for reading over terms 3 and 4. The students then recorded their efforts either on a worksheet or online. Estabilishing a home reading routine for all children is vital to developing a child’s reading identity. Daily reading allows a child to embrace and enhance their learning potential.  Reading allows children to be transported from our world to another. Between the pages of a book, children can immerse themselves in the lives of fictional characters and learn about cultures different from their own.  Children can also experience a range of emotions, realistic issues and ethical dilemmas in a safe environment.

Congratulations to all the students that participated in our challenge.
