Secondary Community News

Lower Secondary (Years 7-8)

As the end of year approaches, the weeks are moving by faster in the 7/8’s. Over the past two weeks, we have been putting our measurement skills into practice, by measuring our heights and even designing our own bedrooms (cm will be added later). There are some future architects here.

The school also celebrated Russ Jackson day last week in which classes went around and did something nice for other people or the school.

Finally, the 7/8s have started practicing their performance for the Christmas Concert, in two short lessons they have already shown a lot of talent. Look forward to it, families! It will be a spectacle.

Upper Secondary (Years 9-10)

This week in the Hungry Jackson Cafe, students practiced taking initiative by serving customers water and food when they sat down. Students also took initiative by offering to refill water and add hot sauce to customers burrito bowls as they ate. Great teamwork Year 9\10! Your employability skills are improving and the Jackson staff are very impressed.

I like Mambourin because we do labelling, putting food into boxes and we learn a lot of different things on how to be safe and everyone is nice there. I learned how to use a pallet jack.

Film Project

In term three, some Senior Secondary students participated in a film project as part of their weekly work experience with Future Connect at the Taylors Hill Youth and Community Centre.

The students worked together on a short film to highlight the importance of talking to an employer to make reasonable adjustments in the workplace.

The event was celebrated by a premiere screening at the St Albans Arts and Community Centre.

What’s Happening In ASDAN?

ASDAN students continue to participate in supported work experience programs at Westvale Community Gardens, Westlodge/Sunshine Hospital Garden Project and Braybrook Dimmies. Our employability skill focus this term is Learning.

We asked some students what they enjoyed learning about in ASDAN this year.  Here are some responses
