Stem

STEM this week…

This week in STEM Foundation students were introduced to coding and the ‘ScratchJr’ app. They were excited to learn how to add backgrounds, characters and how to animate these to create scenes and simple animations. Students at other year levels also used Scratch online to create more complex projects.

Victorian Challenge & Enrichment Series

This week selected students from participated in Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series online workshops

‘Secrets of Eromanga’ (3/4)

‘Dinosaur Dynamics’ (5/6)

Students listened to a talk by Tim Richards, a palaeontologist from the University of Queensland. He spoke about fossils from the Eromanga sea in Australia and about dinosaur body structure and how this affects their ways of moving. They learned how palaeontologists use information from the past and living creatures to build up images of what dinosaurs looked like and how they lived.

Students were highly engaged and thoroughly enjoyed the sessions.
