Official Opening & Blessing of the STEAM, Staff and Landscape Projects

Senator for Victoria Jana Stewart opened the new science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM) building at St Brigid's College which will improve student educational outcomes.

Senator Stewart said work on the development project was delivered with support of Australian Government funding of $1.7 million through the Capital Grants Program.

“A lot of work has gone into this project which has delivered the demolition of stafffacilities, a transportable tech-skills building, art and textile spaces, the constructionof specialist learning areas and student amenities, and the conversion of sciencefacilities to provide facilities for staff,” Senator Stewart said.

“These new facilities will provide school staff, teachers and students at St Brigid's College with better, more modern spaces in which to work, teach and learn.

“The Australian Labor Government is committed to providing all schools with appropriate funding so that all students, including those in St Brigid's College, Horsham, get the best possible education.

”Senator Stewart said the new facilities would benefit the students currently at St Brigid's College, as well as the many students who will follow in future years.

“But at the end of the day, it is not the building that delivers a great education, it is what happens inside of it,” Senator Stewart said.

“The teachers, staff and students at St Brigid's College have built a strong and positive school community and these new facilities will further enhance our  local educational opportunities.”

“Our Government strongly believes in providing the best possible resources so thatlocal students can realise their potential and develop the skills they need to go on tofurther study or to find a job.”

Gerard Raven, Principal of St Brigid’s College Horsham, said “Senator Stewart’s presence today at the opening of this wonderful STEAM building, staff facilities and landscaping projects, demonstrates her support and understanding of the need for contemporary learning spaces that enhance the knowledge and skills of our students.

“However, education is not just a preparation for life, education is life. As amazing as the facilities are, we all know that a school is as only as good as the people in it.  These brilliant facilities will provide our students with the opportunity to demonstrate that in a world of full of problems, they can be the solution.”
