Berg Shield Cricket

Mr Damian Roff

O'Connor students have gone cricket mad at present. Apart from our Year 9 students enjoying a modified lunchtime game on a daily basis (fiercely fought), A large number of students put their hand up to represent the College in the Diocesan Competition and the Berg Shield.

Our Berg Shield team was victorious in its first round encounter against McCarthy Catholic College in Tamworth. The side was really well captained by Jacob Miller who with opening partner Charlie Foster put on a 100 opening partnership with boys boys scoring half centuries. Further rapid fire contributions by Nick Miller, Lachie Bradford, Sam Killen, Hayden Kratz and Tom Lockyer pushed our total to a healthy 178 off 20 overs. McCarthy in their innings had no answer to the O'Connor attack and were all out for 62. Nick Miller, Darcy Lawler, Emily Simpson and Jarius Webster were among a host of others impressive with the ball in hand. The second round game is against James Sheehan College, Orange to be played this coming Thursday in Coonabarabran.

Encounters in coming weeks also include games against Holy Trinity Inverell and a rematch against McCarthy in both boys and girls. The College is attempting to give all players who put their name down at least one game to experience the beautiful game of Cricket.
