Principal's Report

Mrs Clare Healy

Dear O’Connor community,

At O’Connor we are often speaking with students about being successful. In previous times success would be defined by a HSC mark or the type of job you had or whether your team was in the Grand Finals. What we know is that this can be a shallow definition of Success. Success is an interesting concept as every person has a different idea about success.

We are very proud of our students as they continue their journey of success. Our Mission week activities saw students participate in a variety of activities. The liturgy was particularly beautiful as we reflected on the gifts we have compared to people in Ethiopia. I am particularly proud of the money our community raised in support of the good works of Catholic Missions. Our College Leaders put on the Greatest Handball Competition for the Missions on Friday. It was great to see so many students and staff participating. The commentary was very entertaining from the Leaders. Congratulations to Angus for taking home the coveted prize.

This week we had our NAIDOC week celebrations. It was wonderful to be a part of this important community event. It was a fantastic opportunity to be a part of the smoking ceremony and Indigenous cultural program. Our students and staff participated in the Indigenous emu and kangaroo dance. These experiences enrich our students and remind us that we are an inclusive catholic learning community. Thank you to Mr Russell, Mr Griffin, Ms Bloomfield and our pride group for the amazing week.

Our Creative and Performing Arts students gave us a wonderful night of music, art and textiles. The talent on show was awesome and reminds us of the many different avenues of success. Congratulations to Ms Sampson, Ms Suann, Mrs Frazier, Mrs Wooster, Mrs Channon and all of our wonderful performers.

We are busily collating the Early Entries offers and Year 12 success stories for our next newsletter. We would like to extend an invitation for our Year 12 students and their parents to share their wonderful news.

God Bless,

Clare Healy
