FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.

TERM 4 - WEEK 3

When communicating with our school community I have consistently referenced  St Nicholas' 2021 Annual Improvement Plan, which details this calendar year's processes and strategies for our three key areas of focus:

  • Living Like Jesus
  • Literacy and Pedagogy
  • High Functioning Teams

Today I would like to present to you some data as evidence of the positive impact our focus on the learning and teaching of reading is having on our students.

Tables 1A illustrates St Nicholas' PM Benchmark reading data at the conclusion of Term 3 for 2019-2021. This year's data is extremely encouraging, particularly when considering it was calculated in Week 10 Term 3, after our students returned from 5 weeks of remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • 5.76: Average PM level for all Kindergarten students is the highest of the past 3 years

Year 1

  • 16.39: Average PM level for all Year 1 students is the highest of the past 3 years
    • This is particularly pleasing after this cohort’s average was only 3.69 at the same time last year (a 12 month cohort growth of 12.7 PM levels)

Year 2

  • 22.41: Average PM level for all Year 2 students is the second highest of the past 3 years
    • Particularly pleasing after this cohort’s average was 14.29 at the same time last year

Year 3

  • 26.22: Average PM level for all Year 3 students is the second highest of the past 3 years
    • Particularly pleasing after this cohort’s average was 19.85 at the same time last year

I do hope you can join me in celebrating some quality learning and teaching, even in a year that has been so affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Parents Survey's

On Tuesday I communicated with parents through the Schools Compass portal that the CSO's had engaged the services of 'Survey My School'. This is to provide parents with a platform to provide feedback on their school. We are asking for your feedback in regards to day to day operations, through to St Nicholas’ Improvement agenda.

If you have not done so already, please click on this link to complete the short survey

Have a great weekend.
