Live Love Learn

Dear Families,

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support during these very different times. We could not be more proud of our students at Galilee, who have once again successfully adapted to an extended period of remote learning. We know that our students would not have been able to access the Remote Learning Program that we delivered without your assistance and support at home. Thank you for your ongoing flexibility, patience and understanding in helping your children to access learning opportunities over Google Meet and supporting them to complete learning activities. These are extraordinary times and we can’t thank you enough for your efforts in juggling remote learning alongside the many other commitments you have. We hope the next two weeks provide you and your family with a chance to relax a little and recharge your batteries ready to take on whatever is thrown our way in Term 4.

End of Term 3

Term 3 comes to an end tomorrow, Friday 17th September, at 1.30pm. Classroom teachers will run a 9am Google Meet for their students. Specialist Teachers will post activities and accompanying videos for students to complete tomorrow. Specialist Teachers will be available to assist students and respond to emails on Friday 17th, up until 1.30pm.  We hope you all have a well deserved break over the holidays.

Term 4 will begin on Monday October 4th. More details about Term 4 at Galilee will be emailed to families following Victorian Government Announcements related to schools, expected this Sunday.

Science Day

Today we celebrated Science Day. Many students were dressed up for the occasion. Lots of fun experiments were done at home and on site. Our new building will include a STEM centre to enable more of these types of activities to happen on a regular basis.

See students below conducting or participating in experiments.

Wellbeing

Caring, Loving & Breathing

By thinking about people and pets you love while breathing deeply, makes it more self-calming. Hold up one of your hands and run a finger from your other hand up your small finger breathing in, and then down the other side breathing out, while thinking of your first caring love. Then repeat this for each of your caring loves on your other fingers and thumb. Doing this will also help you fall asleep.

Gratitude

What is Gratitude? It's about paying attention to the things and moments we have right now, and not worrying about what we don't have. We practise gratitude by noticing the positives that exist around us, and by being thankful for things, places and people in our lives.

These daily questions have been developed by The Resilience Project to help families practise gratitude. They are a great way to facilitate positive conversations as your family shares a meal, or at a time that works best for you. Making gratitude a daily part of your family's life is an uplifting habit, especially as we navigate the changes that COVID-19 has brought to our lives.

Here are some great questions to get your family conversations started:

  • What were three things that went well for you today?
  • Who is someone you feel really grateful for today? Tell us why.
  • What is it about our home that makes it our home/a special family place?
  • What is something you are looking forward to tomorrow?

The Fathering Project

We understand the challenging times that both schools and families have been experiencing recently and we’d like to support you by offering free access to one of our highly regarded resources.

The dads and kids’ activity ideas booklet can be downloaded now. There are 20 low or no-cost activities for families to do at home together. A great resource just in time for the school holidays.

Class Work

On Monday Year 2 made pizzas! There were big pizzas, small pizzas, square pizzas and round pizzas, there were even paper pizzas and toasted sandwich pizzas.

We had fun making our pizzas and writing our recipes.

Year 3

In Inquiry this term, we have been learning about the Healthy Eating Pyramid and why it is important to make healthy food choices everyday. Here is a video of Matteo explaining the benefits of healthy eating and how it makes you feel. Enjoy!

Poetry By Joseph 3B

Students steadily working silently.

Children with colourful uniforms.

Happy people playing together!

Outstanding results by working hard.

Only being kind and helpful to others.

Learning together and having fun!

Building Update

Our new building is moving ahead and looking amazing. The main structure is now complete and the roof to the basketball/multi-purpose stadium is almost complete. Soon afterwards, work will begin on the top level (rooftop classrooms and play space). Some large machinery has been used to complete this work, as seen below.

Cure Cancer Donations

THANK YOU for all of your donations to our Cure Cancer Buddy Box fundraiser. Your generosity has raised an amazing $938.80!

These donations will go towards providing some special Buddy Boxes to support children undergoing cancer treatment and all profits will be invested back into lifesaving cancer research.

Best wishes,

Simon Millar (Principal)
