ASC Student Service Meeting, November 2021.
Four of our 2022 Prefects recently represented John Wollaston at the ASC Student Service Meeting and Immersion which was an opportunity for staff and students across the ASC to collaborate about how to bring Service alive in schools.
The ASC Student Service Meeting gave our school leaders a chance to communicate with students from other schools looking at how we can promote organizations, what events we can hold, and service learning with the younger students. We discussed ways we can support the community and how we can share opportunities as Anglican schools. We visited St Bart's which was an eye opening experience that exposed us to the ways in which the less fortunate in our community live.
Amy Leitch - Service Prefect
I think that the ASC Student Service day was very informative and inspirational. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to meet other like-minded individuals and have the opportunity to brainstorm events on behalf of the School and Prefect body. Visiting St Bart's was an extremely eye-opening experience, highlighting the problems surrounding homelessness. I am very thankful I had this opportunity.
Eloise Henneberry - Hale Prefect
Attending St George's Anglican Grammar School provided me with the insight of other Anglican school’s methods and events. It provided me with knowledge on how to operate and communicate as a leader within an Anglican School.
St Bart's housing shelter enlightened me on the struggles people face outside of our community and how such tragic events can happen to anybody. This section of the excursion also gave me the confidence to offer assistance to other people outside of my general community who may need help or look like they are struggling.
Chad Duggin – Ramsden Prefect
Five of our 2022 Prefects attended the WAASA Year 11 Student Leaders Day with Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy AO on Friday 29 October. Now in it's 15th year, the Student Leadership Day has enabled potential student leaders to interact with one another, as well as with key presenters. Students had the opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest with the Archbishop and peers from other schools.
The Student Leaders Day was a great day for all in which we could network and learn from other Anglican student leaders with similar portfolios. I was lucky enough to speak with Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy AO about our school and she recalled many positive experiences she has had at John Wollaston. I look forward to implementing my newly found ideas and strategies in our community. Overall it was a great learning experience and a great chance to meet and work with other leaders.
Jake Passmore – Student Wellbeing Prefect
The Student Leaders Day gave us an opportunity to interact with students from other schools, and a chance to learn new ways we can lead and how we can leave a legacy at our school. There were some great ideas shared and inspiration given from Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy AO as well as The Reverend Peter Laurence OAM and others about becoming a leader and what important role we must commit to. Having been able to be a part of this day has motivated and encouraged me to think about ways I can make a difference at John Wollaston.
Amy Leitch – Service Prefect
Last week the Prefects and I had the opportunity to attend the WAASA Student Leaders Day alongside other Anglican schools in Perth. This event prompted us to build relationships with other students from other schools, learn what a leader is and what it takes to be a good leader. Through presentations held by Archbishop Kay Goldsworth AO, Chaplains and School Executives we learnt what it meant to be a real leader and what it takes to be the best leaders at school and in our day-to-day lives. This day taught me that being a leader is more than being a role model to your peers, it’s about doing what’s right, looking out for others and taking risks to benefit others.
Kelly Denhere – Chapel Prefect
I would like to thank the School for giving me the opportunity to attend the Student Leaders Day which is held by the Anglican School’s Commission. I met students from different Anglican schools around Western Australia and also had the opportunity to introduce myself to Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy AO. I really enjoyed the interactions I had with other students at the event.
Throughout the day, I collected a lot of advice for becoming a good leader for our students and community in 2022 as the Head Prefect. I was able to take information and advice from the three workshops. Each workshop opened my mind to all the ideas and different situations we may face as student leaders of the School. Going through the Chapel Service, it gave me time to reflect and look forward to how we as a Prefect group can guide students to building a well-being community.
Izzy Ngoy – Head Prefect
I had the opportunity to attend the Student Leaders Day held by the Anglican School’s Commission this year. It was a day where student leaders from several Anglican schools around Western Australia all came together to share ideas and collaborate.
It was great meeting with other leaders and hearing their opinions and goals when it comes to leading their schools in 2022. We were taken to several workshops where we heard different perspectives on what it means to be a leader and how we might achieve this. It has encouraged me to look at the role models around me and how they can inspire me to achieve what I want as a leader next year. I was able to take so much from that day and look forward to being able to utilise it in my role as Academic Prefect.

Students are expected to attend examinations in their summer uniform and be well presented to all exams. Any Year 11 ATAR or General student seeking assistance from their teachers or finalising assessments during the exam period are expected to sign in and out of Student Services and attend school in their summer uniform.
Celebration of the Arts
It is wonderful to see so many of our Arts students actively involved in Drama, Dance and Music performances both at school and in their local communities.
Congratulations to all students involved in the 2021 Instrumental Concerts 1 and 2 this week. The Arts Department presented two engaging evenings of music performed by our talented and hardworking students. Thanks to Music Teacher, Rory Marchant for his dedication and enthusiasm to prepare our students for this musical showcase.
In addition, several of our students have also recently performed/directed shows in community theatre performances in the local area. Blair Louis in Year 9 recently co-directed The Adventures of Little Red Robin Hood for Art In Motion Theatre Company. This was performed as part of YouthFULL at Don Russell Performing Arts Centre, before taking the production to YOUTHFest at Marloo Theatre. After spending time in the Director’s chair, Blair took over the role of Grandma – which he did in a very humorous manner with some quick improvisation skills.
Alexis Atkins and Helen Stark in Year 7 recently performed in Moana Jr. with Roleystone Theatre in the ensemble of the Senior Youth Production. Both students played villagers, and Alexis also participated in the showstopping number “Shiny” in a cleverly choreographed dance that made the ensemble appear as if they were the limbs of Tamotoa – the crab. Alexis also took on a role as part of the Ocean ensemble – learning multiple dances and songs in just one rehearsal.

Sienna Macri in Year 8 and Lila McLeod in Year 7 both performed in The Wizard of Oz with Laughing Horse Productions at the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre. Sienna was one of the youngest lead players, performing in the dual role of the Wicked Witch of the West and her Kansas counterpart Mrs Gulch which included a quick costume and make-up change and being painted completely green. Sienna is to be commended for her strong performance with an engaging and intimidating use of voice and a fantastically wicked laugh. Lila performed in the ensemble, singing as part of a trio and dancing en pointe as a member of the Lullaby League in Munchkinland, and playing an Ozian in the Emerald City.
