Staff bio - Summer Read

Hello all,

My name is Summer Read, and I am the new Mental Health Practitioner for Auburn High School and Swinburne Senior Secondary College.

I am a passionate and active social worker currently completing the final stages of a Master of Social Work.  I have a background in Psychology, along with an additional qualification in women’s services providing support for family and domestic violence.  On a more personal note, I love dogs and have two Dachshunds, Nova and Douglas.  I love the outdoors, camping and hiking.  I have a large collection of indoor plants and love to be out in my garden tending my vegetable patch.

I believe in a strength-based approach and take a strong advocacy and support role.  Within the school community, I aim to make myself available for individual and group supports, in addition to a whole-school approach to positive mental health and wellbeing.  I have a lot of experience working in mental health and have a strong interest in adolescent wellbeing and support.

The last two years have been tough on everybody, especially for students, staff, and whole school communities.  We are all experiencing a lot of emotion regarding lockdowns, wavering mental health concerns, and now trying to get back to a relatively normal life.  If you have any concerns, I will make myself available to support you in any way you feel necessary.

I look forward to getting to know you all and to be a part of your school community.
