Margo and Sophie are delighted to be finally delivering the Teen Mental Health First Aid course to our Year 9 students. This consists of:
Session 1 – Mental health problems (discussing what mental health problems are and how our thoughts affect our feelings which in turn impacts our behaviour)
Session 2 – Helping a friend in a mental health crisis (discussion about helping a friend who is suicidal). The focus is around linking this person with a trusted adult.
Session 3 – Helping a friend who is developing a mental health problem.
Wellbeing support is available to students if required. The sessions involve watching videos depicting what it is like for a teenager to have a mental health problem, and how they can access help. The focus of the course is about accessing help from a trusted adult rather than students handling such matters on their own.
We trust our Year 9 students will get a lot out of the sessions.
Bairnsdale Secondary College is very lucky to be given the following information by Gippsland Centre against Sexual Assault (GCASA) who is partnering with headspace to have a Q&A session regarding healthy relationships, consent, safety online, and many other topics. The event is scheduled for Thursday 18th November 2021 at 4:30 pm.
This event will be running in conjunction with 16 Days of Activism which is an event that Bairnsdale Secondary College’s Wellbeing Team will and has in the past honoured. We hope that our students use this great opportunity to get their questions asked by Gippsland Centre Against Sexual Assault and headspace.
Below is a statement about the event:
At GCASA and headspace Bairnsdale we work hard in empowering and educating people in order to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. We work closely with groups and organisations to share our knowledge and to be active in the prevention of violence and sexual assault. This includes the work during the 16 Days of Activism in the elimination of violence against women and children, commencing every year from the 25th November until 10th December. We believe that youth will lead the way to make change in the world and because of this we are asking East Gippsland Youth to lead the way into the 16 Days.
Our plan is to provide a Q&A session about healthy relationships, sexual assault, consent, online safety, relationships in real life, what GCASA and headspace do, and more.
In order for us to do that we are pre-surveying young people to get a sense of the type of things YOU want to hear about on these topics, what do young people want to know, therefore allowing us to tailor the Q&A so that it is relevant and useful, and not what ‘we think’ you might want to know.
Again this event is scheduled at Thursday 18th November 2021 4:30 pm but check out GCASA and headspace Bairnsdale’ s Facebook for more information
