Expression of Interest for Alpine School - Year 9 2022

Alpine School Leadership opportunity

Each year Bairnsdale Secondary College has an opportunity to apply for Year 9 students to attend a leadership program through the Alpine School for Student Leadership

Selected students attend a term long course, in which they develop their skills in leadership, community involvement and team building exercises.

This year, the College successfully applied for 6 positions in the program for Term 2 2022, which will be located at Dinner Plain.

Our current Year 8 students will have an opportunity to apply for a place in the School for Student Leadership program for 2022, with the hope of completing the program whilst they are in Year 9. Once expressions of interest have been received a selection process will proceed. This will include:

  • An expression of interest form can be collected from the 8-9 Hub
  • An interview with the selection team (consisting of the College Principal, the 8/9 Assistant Principal and hub team)
  • An information session will be conducted with participating students and families once the application process is complete.

About the School for Leadership Experience

The School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for Year 9 students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions.  There are three campuses in iconic locations across Victoria.

The Alpine School Campus is located at Dinner Plain in the Victorian Alps. During their stay, students live and work with up to 44 of their peers from other schools around Victoria. They are presented with challenges and lessons designed to build tolerance, teamwork and leadership.

More information about the Dinner Plain Alpine School Campus, can be accessed at www.alpineschool.vic.edu.au

Please note: An expression of interest is not an assurance of a place in this program.

There are currently 6 available places for our college community in 2022. There is a cost of approximately $1000 associated with this program that will not be covered by the College. These are outlined in detail the program documentation. The program is run by the School for Leadership. Bairnsdale Secondary College is a liaison school for enrolled students participating in the program.

Contact: Assistant Principal Kylie Greenaway or Kelly Bell Franklin at the 8/9 hub for more detail.
