From the Principal's desk

It has been great to welcome children back on site this week even if we have not been all here at the same time. I know the children and the teachers are enjoying seeing one another in person and the school has been buzzing with learning activities.

We have now officially partnered with TheirCare to provide Out of School Hours Care in 2022. TheirCare will be providing information regularly in our newsletter and will operate from the Multipurpose room. Please click forward to read further details about the program.

Also, you may have noticed activity at the back of the school. L & J Webb Fencing have been subcontracted to put up our new fence which we were successful in obtaining a grant for last year. So far they have completed the netball tennis section and will move around the school over the coming weeks.

Also, I would like to share a letter that I included in the transition packs that we dropped around to the Kinder and Goodstart last term. Sometimes caught up in the midst of Covid, remote learning, back on site, off-site, etc we lose sight of what a great school we have and the extensive support we invest in intervention and extension of our students.

Wellbeing Matters - Letter from Transition Pack

At Numurkah Primary School we are committed to supporting the whole student and ensuring that we provide our students with the necessary enrichment and support they require to set them on the pathway to success. In our intervention program, we seek to identify and address any social-emotional or learning difficulties that we know undetected can lead to children not reaching their true potential.

Our Wellbeing Team continues their support throughout each child’s years at our primary school, and then links in with the Wellbeing Team and their future secondary school providing group and individualised transition support. Our Wellbeing Team consists of:

Wellbeing Coordinator: Rohan Lelliott

Program Disabilities Coordinator: Deb McKeown

School Psychologist: Rachel Robertson

School Chaplain: Tam Joyce

Speech Pathologist: Lil Ruscoe/Sarah Lawrence

Occupational Therapist: Hayley Tapscott (returning in 2022)

All our Foundation students are screened for hearing, vision, and speech at the start of the school year and we work closely with families and external providers to make sure intervention is timely and every child is supported.

We invest heavily in early intervention and extension at Numurkah Primary School. Our Reading Recovery and Tutor Learning Program are run by experienced teachers - Faye Holmes, Sue Herlihy, Denise Riordan and Penny Naish. They are also supported by our literacy trainee and three education support staff. Jody Tilley, an experienced classroom teacher, is also the Coordinator of our High Abilities Program which is currently focusing on our children’s Literacy and Numeracy.

We are achieving above schools that are similar to us and are in some cases achieving above the State in our NAPLAN results and other assessments.

We regularly review student data and have also been very successful in obtaining extra funding for students with learning needs and having children accepted into State High Abilities Extension Programs.
