Teach the Teacher

Professional Development Program

On Monday 7 September the SRC groups from Scoresby Secondary College and Mount Waverley Secondary College were involved in a ‘Teach the Teacher’ professional development session.

“We sat for hours discussing things like self-improvement, self-empowerment and how Scoresby’s SRC could improve. There was an in depth analysis of the Teach the Teacherprogram. The SRC provided lots of food adding to the already positive environment. There was a video presentation about ‘Congress’ and we presented the information that we collected at the staff meeting on Monday 17 August about how Scoresby students learn best.” – Michael Mountjoy, Year 8

“The Teach the Teacher program has been really exciting to be a part of and this PD was no exception. A member of the VicSRC team, Emma, has been helping us throughout our development process from the start she returned for our latest session as helpful and supportive as ever. She allowed us, the students, to let our conversations flow naturally a key part of making the day as successful as it was. We also had an external evaluator Warren Prior who made the time to talk to some of the students (including myself) individually and was great to see him engaged with the concepts brought forward on the day. There were also interviews that were filmed for upcoming VicSRC and Teach the Teacher promotional videos. Working with our friends from Mount Waverley has been a positive experience and I’m feeling really energised for the future of this program.” – Christy Pritchard, Year 10

“In collaboration with Mount Waverley Secondary College we bounced ideas off one another to give us the greatest possible chance for achieving our ideals and goals. As they have more experience with the program than we have, their help was a great resource to our committee. They gave us inspiration from their work and ideas about how we can adapt it to our project that will be presented and developed with the teachers in ensuing months.

We were also very excited to use our new Student Leadership Room. The room was decorated with new information that we received from teachers earlier in the term. When the Mount Waverley students entered, they were very envious of the great resource we have. The room has so much potential and we can’t wait to use it.” Frazer Spence, Year 10
