Science Week

WOW!
What an awesome week to be a scientist. Our success celebrating National Science Week has reached way beyond our expectations. It started off with a grand opening celebration at KIOSC, Swinburne University where we met with the Minister of Education.
The Science faculty would like to thank everyone involved in the organisation of events. We were really impressed about the high level of discussion students engaged in, with their peers, staff members as well as wider members of our school community. Thank you to the students, parents, administration staff, SRC, principal team and teachers who assisted in the development of these events. And to the parents and friends who visited our Stargazing Night on Friday 21 August, we did achieve the Guinness World Record!
The quality of the Year 11 Chemistry TEDX talks about light was phenomenal, the VCE Psychology and Physics students also gave up their lunchtimes to share their passion for science. Students undertook industry based learning at the Melbourne Aquarium and at the KIOSC careers expo. The Year 7’s were all smiles during the Wild Action Zoo visit, where they further developed their knowledge about classification of animals, the funnest way possible.
All year levels were involved, thanks to our friendly staff and students stretched far out into the Leader Newspaper and on other social media.
Next year we will continue to endeavour for bigger and better things. The success of National Science Week celebrations at Scoresby Secondary College in 2015 has definitely inspired us as staff members to keep pushing our boundaries and striving for more. Engagement with Science as a subject is paramount to developing our students to be the best citizens of the 21st century and hopefully empowering them to become future leaders in the Australian scientific community. Thank you again!
