Challenge Program

Monday 24 - Thursday 27 August 2015

The Challenge Program was conducted for the Year 8 & 9’s.  Students were involved in a range of activities that challenged them mentally, socially, physically and intellectually.  The Respectful Relationships Education in Schools component of the week was extremely well accepted by both groups and I thank each and every student involved for their input and enthusiasm with the material covered. Thank you to Andy Phillips for all of his hard work and commitment to the program and I know that the Year 8’s appreciated working with him for the 4 days. As a part of being one of the introductory schools for the Respectful Relationships Education in Schools, we have been asked to be a part of the review group and will be running some focus groups in October with Deakin University.

The other activities (Hip Hop Dancing, Jamaican Dancing, Circus, Improvisation, Rock Climbing and Cartooning) completed during the week were also well received by the students and having external experts come into the college to run the sessions provided the students with great opportunities to challenge themselves.

I would like to thank all of the staff involved in the Challenge Program, your support and encouragement of the students was greatly appreciated. Thank you again to Andy for his involvement and to the students for their participation in the Challenge Program.

The feedback from students has been generally positive, with some great ideas for improvement and development of the program. Some of the comments from students included:

I learnt that learning different things is so fun to do.

That I’m not afraid of heights as much as I was and I’m less scared to try new things.

I learnt that when I challenge myself, I can do a lot I didn’t think was possible.

That having this week is really beneficial.
