SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

   SENIOR SUB SCHOOL NEWS

Sarah Bridges

Senior Sub School Coordinator

We have had a busy yet productive term and most students have settled into the routine of school and study. The first round of progress reports and marks have been available on the parent portal on XUNO and it has allowed the Student Managers to have discussions with students and to put supports in place. Please take the opportunity to discuss these and if you have any concerns please phone the relevant Year Level Coordinator.

Upcoming Events

Meet Melbourne in Geelong - if you interested in studying at the University of Melbourne there is an information session on 23rd March at the Mercure Motel from 6.30-8.30 pm.

VCE and Careers Expo. Caulfield Race Course. 5/5-8/5. Free tickets available from Mr Rankcom.

How to help your child study and understanding VCE.  Tuesday 19th April 5.30pm -6.30pm in the BER, NGSC.  The program will be presented by Elevate, an experienced and international group who specialise in providing advice and resources to support students and parents. The focus will be on the study environment/technology and best practices.

This is a great way to support your child in their studies and helps overcome the issue of your students stating, “I have no homework”.

Tutoring. Maths tutoring is available in the library Monday lunchtime and afterschool Monday.

Uniform Reminder

All students are to be in full school uniform.  Girls are reminded that the kilts are to be worn at knee length and the dress no more than 8cm above the knee. Any girl who needs to lengthen their kilts or dresses must do so by the first week of term 2.  Boys are to be clean-shaven.

Upcoming School Holidays

It is important that students complete schoolwork and study over the break to ensure they are adequately prepared for the upcoming term and assessment tasks.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish students and families a safe break over the upcoming term break.

YEAR 10 NEWS

Simon Scoullar-Greig

Year 10 Coordinator

Term One is well and truly underway. The year tens have started the term well. After some initial subject changes it is good to see the year level sinking their teeth into Senior School life. There is no more subject changes as the school offered plenty of support with subject selections towards the end of last year.

Athletics Day is on Thursday so students should be participating in as many events as possible, where your house colors with pride and don’t be “ too cool” to have a go.

Can I also congratulate our successful Student Representative Council (SRC) Students;

  • Abi Gardner
  • Tammy Luu
  • Illeen Yodsan
  • Vincenzo Francois
  • Tiffany Dagg
  • Rachel Bakulikara
  • Harry Musgrove
  • Daisy Sheey
  • Kaylah Mcarthur
  • Subhan Rahimy

Please take advantage of the SRC. The SRC has formed to represent the interests of the year level and the opportunity should not be wasted.

Mid term progress reports should have been accessed via the parent portal and I hope some poignant conversations were had at home. I can’t stress enough the importance of external support with regards to schooling.

URGENT  - STRUCTURED WORKPLACE LEARNING (SWL)

Neil Rankcom

Careers Coordinator

Each year many of our students complete up to 20 days of structured workplace learning. This is similar to work experience but differs in that the students usually have some training in the vocation that they choose. Many of these placements used to be found by a company funded by the government but that funding has changed and now schools need to find many of the placements themselves.

I am asking for the school community's help in trying to find as many placements as possible. SWL usually takes place on one day during the week over a ten week block. Students need to be paid a minimum of $5 per day and this covers the student under work cover through the State Government. Students do need to be supervised and can often turn out to be a useful contributor to the business.

If you or anyone you know could take on a SWL student or you would like any further information please contact Neil Rankcom at the school as soon as you can. Below are a list of careers our students would be keen to try.
