Immigration Museum

Two weeks ago, our Middle Students adventured into the city on a cold and wet day to learn about immigration and population change. We caught a very busy, peak hour train where our students showed the utmost respect, offering seats to other passengers. They showed resilience throughout the entire day as it rained on us and we had to do a lot of walking. We visited the Immigration Museum, where we heard a couple of migration stories. A few of our students were able to actively be a part of these stories by dressing up. We discussed how immigration has impacted our changing population and were able to look through the gallery on level one. For lunch, we headed to Birrarung Marr, although it was a little tricky to find a dry place to stop. We then walked all the way up to the Shrine of Remembrance, where we were greeted for a short tour. It was a busy day, but our middle students made us proud with how well they represented KPS (We even received a call from a passenger on the train commending how well our students were behaved). It was a fantastic adventure.

Here are some reflections from a few middle students:

'The train ride had about 10 stops. We finally arrived and we walked and walked then we stopped to have some snack. Then we started to walk again and our socks got wet. We entered the Immigration Museum, but the doors werent open. So we waited outside. Students started to knock on the door and then a man came to open the door. We watched stories and dressed up. It was so so fun! We also got to go into the galleries.' By Ashlie W and Sienna S

'On Friday the 31st of May we went to the Immigration Museum. We saw heaps of fun things. We learnt about History! It was the best day ever. We walked around and learnt about two stories. We went on a train to get back to school.' By Ashlee K and Abby F

Super Boss Day

On the 3rd of June we came dressed as our favourite super heroes. We dressed up to support the Heart Kids Foundation, Heart kids is a support group for children born with heart conditions and they work to support the families of these children. It was great to see Middle School participating by dressing up!

Basketball Clinics

Over the last couple of weeks and until the end of term, we have Kara from the Kilsyth Cobras coming to work the students. She has been teaching them a range of basketball skills and taking them through some fun activities. The students have been fantastic role models of respect and have had fantastic resilience whilst learning new skills.
