We are ALL Superheroes!

What fun we had on Superhero Day!! Everyone came dressed as their favourite super heroes. Was there ever a safer day to be at school with all these people in capes? We had plenty of fun and enjoyed playing lots of superhero role play games at play time! Check out some of our photos.

Puppets

A massive thank you to all parents who sent things along to school for our puppet making sessions! WE had a BALL designing, making, creating, changing and evaluating our puppet designs. First the students had to plan their puppet design. They had to give their puppet a name and decide what they want it to be. Then we drew a plan of what it will look like and what materials we think we need to make it. Simple so far right? Well the tricky bit came the next week when we looked at all the wonderful things we had to make our puppets with. What happens if I cannot find a cardboard tube? What if I cannot find any wool or fur? So the children had to change and adapt their plan to suit the materials that they could find. We have some very resourceful and creative students in Junior School! It was simply amazing to watch them making and creating, in fact the room was so quiet as they were busy creating their masterpieces. We cannot wait until our next design and make challenge in Term 4!  Check out some of our photos!

The Holidays are coming!

We are still very busy, busy, busy in Junior School as we wind down to the school holidays. We have been writing explanation reports and learning so much about different types of weather phenomenon. It has been so exciting to learn all about earthquakes, tsunamis, tornados, volcanos and more! Ask you child what they know about these things. We have also been learning about addition and subtraction. Over the holidays if you get time, ask your child to add or subtract some things as you are shopping, at home or cooking. We have also been learning to read the time on an analogue clock. This is an area the children struggle with so over the holidays, please ask your child at random times of the day what the time is. We have been focussing on reading time to the hour, half hour and quarter hour.

Most of all, all the teachers and Education Support staff in Junior School wish you as safe and happy holiday. Fingers crossed it does not rain too much.
