Multicultural Festival News

The final Multicultural Committee Meeting for term three was held on Monday, 26 August.  We focused on the program for the opening ceremony of NGSC’s annual Multicultural Festival, to be held on Friday, 25 October, 2019.  This year’s theme is ‘Generations’ and in line with the theme we are seeking community members, families, parents, guardians, friends and students of all ages to dress in national cultural costumes and join in the opening parade.  The event will begin with an opening ceremony commencing at 10:00 am with the entrance of national and cultural costumes followed by entertainment and charismatic guest speakers. The festival will follow from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm with myriad of activities, food stalls, amusement rides, sports, entertainment and much more.

The traditional cake stall is back once again by popular demand and will have on offer an assortment of homemade desserts and cakes. It  has been a tradition at NGSC since the Festival’s beginning and we are appealing for your support for the donation of traditional crafted cakes for “Geelong’s Best Home Made Cake Stall” at the Multicultural Festival.  Thus, with a bit of advanced notice and school holidays approaching, you may consider and be kind enough to bake some of your favourite cakes for the Festival. We know that we will have to raise the bar and live up to our expectation and continue the tradition of  being “the best Cake Stall of Geelong”!

Watch this space with more information to come. We would be very grateful for your contribution. For more information feel free to contact Mrs Vera Dudas or Miss Kim Nguyen at the school.

LOTE Teacher

Farewell to Ayami Tezuka, volunteer Japanese Language Assistant

The LOTE Department has been ably assisted for three weeks during August by Ayami Tezuka, a volunteer Japanese Language Assistant (JLA) from Osaka. Ayami has been working with our Year 7 to 9 students in their classes to improve their understanding of Japanese culture and language. We have greatly appreciated her contribution to our Japanese classes and the experiences our students have gained. We wish her all the best and look forward to participating in the JLA Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language Program again in the future.

Our language learners also participated in the Education Perfect Languages World Championships between 27 August and 3 September. This online competition was an opportunity for students to practise their language skills and gain recognition for their dedication to achievement and excellence in their study.
