Year 7 Melbourne Zoo Trip

Last Friday, 30 August, our Year 7 students made their way to the city to visit the Melbourne Zoo as part of their science studies. For many it was their first time to the Zoo and a fantastic day was had by all. The students represented themselves and the College with pride and received numerous positive comments from Zoo staff and members of the community on their conduct.

National Gallery of Victoria

The next big event for Year 7 students will be visiting the National Gallery of Victoria on Wednesday, 9 October. Permission slips have been handed out and are due back no later than the last week of term 3. If students require a note they are to go to the Junior Sub School as soon as possible to get one.

Year 8 into Year 9 Subject Selections

Subject selections for Year 8 students going into Year 9 occurred on Wednesday, 28 August, and the students were extremely happy to finally have an input into some of what they will be studying next year. We are, however, still chasing up any students who have not completed their selections. If your child hasn’t completed their subject selections can you please encourage them to speak to a member of the Year 8 team in the Junior Sub School as soon as possible to do so.

Positive Focus

For the rest of the term a College focus will be placed on positive interactions. It is an increasing concern in our world today, full of technology and social media, that our ability to respectfully and confidently interact with others is at risk. So let’s try to greet one another each morning and ask how they are. Let’s hold a door open or pick something up for them. Let’s make sure our words and actions each day make other’s days better because being kind is very easy to do!

Mission Possible

On Thursday and Friday, 19 and 20 September, our Year 7 cohort had the opportunity to participate in the ‘Mission Possible’ program at Deakin University. The sessions were run almost exclusively by current university students who took the Year 7 students in Home Groups on a tour of the campus, and to attend STEM inspired workshops. The day culminated in an orienteering/treasure hunt style challenge and a chance for our students to pick the brains of the young adults who hosted them. Students reported feeling more confident in their knowledge of University life and many suggested they are more likely to be interested in attending as a result of the excursion.
