Child Safety

Child Safety

In line with Ministerial Order 870, St Bede’s College created a ‘Child Safe School Committee’ in late 2016. The committee’s primary focus is to ensure that each student attending the College is safe in all dimensions of their schooling, home life and personal development. The staff committee has met regularly since its inception and has worked hard to ensure that the school’s policies and procedures satisfy relevant Child Safe Standards. The committee’s ongoing members include Scott Cadby (Wellbeing Counsellor and Chair of the Committee), Sophie Gonzales (Wellbeing Counsellor), Jenny White (Wellbeing Counsellor/Coordinator), Mark Jones (Deputy Principal for Students), Gabrielle Warfe (Senior School Coordinator) and John McAlroy (Middle School Coordinator). House and Year Level coordinators have a one year rotating term on the committee with Carmel Moloney (Year 8 Coordinator) and Owen Lalor (McCristal Coordinator) being valued members in 2020.

The Child Safe School Student-sub Committee was created in term 3 of 2018 as the staff committee agreed that we needed to promote the participation and empowerment of the students themselves. To date students on the sub-Committee have passed on valuable feedback regarding student safety and wellbeing within the school and are champions of child safety within their respective year levels. Sub-committee meetings are organised and facilitated by Scott Cadby. We’re currently in the process of recruiting a suitable group of students for this sub-committee which will be announced in an upcoming newsletter.
