Principal's News

MARK ROBERTSON

Principal

Dear Oakleigh Grammar Community,

As this is the First Edition of Grammar News for Term Two, I wish to stress the ‘work of good education is the work of strong relationships’. The challenge of meeting this commitment is greater in a remote learning setting but our staff are committed to it.

Our staff do not underestimate their responsibility for the care and education for all of our students, particularly focusing on our students’ growth and engagement at this particular time.

Our strategic intent in strengthening our teaching and learning instructional model maintains a priority-focus under the guidance of our new Deputy Principal of Teaching and Learning, Mr Lance Ryan, our Executive Leadership Team and dedicated staff.

It is clear that the work undertaken towards this important goal is being demonstrated through the impact of a strengthened, positive culture at Oakleigh Grammar (albeit in the interim off campus).

Our teachers are working in accordance with a highly developed curriculum framework which is continually scoped, sequenced, taught, tested and reflected upon on a regular basis. Clearly our teaching staff are in the process of formulating more creative and flexible approaches to projects, whilst enabling opportunity for our students to be challenged.

My gratitude extends to all of our teaching staff, supported by Heads of Faculty and our Leadership Team for their outstanding purposeful work within a remote learning context.

Our School is preparing for the return of all students and staff for the commencement of Term Three, but are being guided by the advice of the Honourable Daniel Andrews, in conjunction with the relevant state health authorities. Clarity on the return to School for all students will be provided at the appropriate time.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the role that you, our Grammar families are playing in your children’s education during these extraordinary times. I have been heartened by the support from you as we have navigated the ever changing landscape during this global pandemic. I appreciate that you are juggling many demands, that your own home and work circumstances are continually evolving and that we are all in uncharted territory. Many of you have contacted me to show your respect for our teaching staff and their commitment to your children’s learning during this period. Thank you too, for your commitment to your children’s learning. I am confident that if we continue to work together supporting them, we will come through this a stronger and dedicated community.
