Junior School

End of Term 3

It has been a very busy time in Junior School over the last few weeks. I replaced Mrs Morris on 13 August when she went on maternity leave. I am very impressed at the behavior and attitude of the majority of students in Junior School. The winter uniform looks lovely and the students wear it with pride.

In term 4 summer uniform is worn. Can parents please ensure their child has the correct summer uniform?  The policy is on the website.  I would encourage students to bring a water bottle to school so they can stay hydrated in class during the warmer weather. Most important for student concentration and brain health!

Teachers are in the middle of completing brief interim reports. This is an excellent way for us to assess your child’s progress prior to Parent Teacher Student Interviews on Thursday 20 September. Please ensure you make appointments with your child’s teachers and attend the interviews with your son and/or daughter.

I will be looking at the interim reports with the Year Level Coordinators and contacting parents of students who are struggling and/or are performing at an unsatisfactory level in the majority of their subjects. Hopefully with a joint partnership between the student, parent and teachers we should be able to assist those students in this position to make some positive progress in term 4.

It's not OK to be away!!! Please aim at 100% attendance for the remainder of the year. I encourage parents and/or students to make appointments after school hours or during the holiday break. Lateness to school is also unacceptable unless something unavoidable occurs. It’s essential your child is at school at least 10 minutes before the warning bell so they can start the school day with their peers in a calm and unstressed manner. It also enables them to hear key organisational information in home group meeting plus key teacher instructions at the start of period one.

In our recent Junior School Assembly Tatira Tatira  and Caitlyn Tilley, our year 9 Student Leaders, spoke to the student group about the following;

  • importance of remaining focused for the last two weeks of term
  • excitement of VicSRC which was held at Scoresby Secondary College on Friday 31 August
  • free dress day on Tuesday 11 September, donation to the R U OK Foundation
  • R U OK Day on Thursday 13 September which included activities, games, performances and a BBQ at lunchtime
  • an invitation to any interested student to the student leadership meetings each Monday lunchtime
  • introduced Ms Kim who spoke briefly about City Experience and showed the students a fabulous visual presentation of the week. A certificate was presented to Ms Kim from the year 9 students thanking her for her brilliant organization
  • introduced Mr Eddy who presented certificates to junior students involved in ‘Scoresby’sBrings Talent’
  • introduced me who presented a ‘spirit of Scoresby’ award to Poppy for kind words to a support staff member

Scoresby students do have heaps of talent!

Well Done to Paige Davidson  who auditioned and was selected to perform in the State School Spectacular! I am sure she is having a wonderful week with hundreds of other talented students from Victorian state schools.

Good Luck to Maddison Handley who is competing in the state gymnastic trials over the holidays. Onwards to the Nationals Maddison!

Good Luck to Mason Rimmer

who is attending the National Clubs Gymnastics Competition held in the Gold Coast next week. He is competing in Double Mini Tramp and Tramp. He is “very excited to compete for his club”. We wish him all the best. Go Mason!

Night of the Notables

What happens when Stevie Wonder, Cleopatra, Steve Irwin and many others come together to share their stories?

A night of absolute fun!

On Tuesday 28 August, Scoresby Secondary college’s, Year 9 classes each took on the persona of a ‘notable person’ and put on a show for all to enjoy!

Over a number of weeks, students have been researching their chosen ‘Notable’ from past and present days. Visitors who were lucky enough to see, all the hard work coming together, were able to learn about people such as; Mike Tyson, Ed Sheeran, Serena Williams, Kurt Cobain and many more by reading the information provided and asking additional questions.

“Fantastic!!!” - Emma Watson (Chloe Zou)

“Very Engaging” - Zoltan Kodaly (Caitlyn Tilley)

“ It was very interesting to learn about other notable characters” - Anne Frank (Charlie Stirling)

Year 9 students would like to thank our teachers, Ms Christoforou and Ms Manioudakis for helping us to prepare for this wonderful night.

We would also like to thank the Scoresby community for coming along to support us in this magical evening.

We hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe holiday break.
