Mazenod Hockey ACC Tournament
The Mazenod 1st XI Hockey team finished in 5th place in the ACC A division tournament in Week 9. In what was a close tournament Mazenod lost 2-nil to John XXIII in their opening fixture and drew 1-all with Bunbury Grammar in their second game.
This meant we played off for 5th and 6th place against CBC Fremantle. Mazenod produced their best performance of the day with a 2-nil win.
It is worth noting that the two other teams in our first-round group, John XXIII who defeated us, won the tournament and Bunbury who we drew with, were runners up overall.
Well done to the boys on their endeavors in this tournament.
Mazenod v Cannington Community College
Mazenod College emerged victorious over Cannington Community College in an exciting match that ended 3-1.
The game began with both teams displaying a high level of energy and determination. We started the match with a dominant approach, quickly asserting our control over the game. Mazenod's offensive strategy put Cannington on the back foot, as we created several scoring opportunities and intense forward pressure right from the kickoff.
Despite the strong start it was Cannington who scored against the run of play after a midfield breakdown led to a breakaway goal, taking a 1-nil lead into half time.
The break seemed to revitalize us, as we came out with high energy and a clear determination to secure victory. Mazenod totally dominated the second half of the game, however we were unable to beat the gallant Cannington goalkeeper who made some great saves. Eventually the relentless pressure paid off with Hamish S striking a brilliant long-distance goal to even the contest.
With just minutes remaining in the match, Mazenod sealed their victory with two more goals thanks too Luke H and Hamish S. As the final whistle blew, Mazenod College emerged triumphant with a 3-1 win.
Both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship and gave their all on the field, making it an entertaining encounter for the spectators. We now have to wait to find out if we have progressed through to the next stage of the competition.
